In a Gas zone, the INDEX.E.Y is used as a control cabinet where the components themselves are certified – Ex db, Ex eb or Ex nx for zone 2 – and sometimes the materials that are not available certified are placed in an Ex db housing. This creates a visually more attractive housing that allows for the use of simpler cable entries than the well-known Ex db housings.
